| Welcome | Sep 16, 2007 |
I read an article in the New York Times about social networking for baby boomers. I decided to try a couple sites to see what is in each one. The Multiply site started in March 2004. By August 2007, they surpassed 6 million registered users. There are 78 million boomers, so those of you, who decide to join me here, will still be ground breakers for many others. [For comparison, Facebook claims 30 million users, few of these are boomers; MySpace claims around 25 million, most of whom are not boomers, either.] Multiply's founders believe that the most valuable use of having your network of friends and family on-line is to enable communication on a broad scale with the people you already know. Hopefully, that will appeal to you as it has for me.
"Peter Pezaris, president and chief executive of Multiply.com Inc., based in Boca Raton, Fla., said he believed that older customers were 'stickier' than younger ones, but said the evidence so far was anecdotal. He said 96 percent of the company’s active users returned each month, a statistic that he said impressed the venture capitalists who considered investing in the site," from the NY Times.
I am interested in developing a group for my high school classmates, some of whom have already joined. I am also interested in developing groups for librarians and school teachers. Many of these groups already exist on Facebook and MySpace, both of which I am a member. But since Multiply is much easier to use and because people tend to have more conversations here, maybe it will be more fun and more interactive.

david4bp wrote on Jul 13, '08 hi Marjorie... i've been in multiply for a few months now and just recently got my high school sweetheart into mult. (she's now married in Florida while I'm up in Ct. but we've remained close friends over the years)... so, as i was telling her about how mult works, i said she could just click the 'search' box for people of like interests and said, for example, type in Pleasantville, NY, since we grew up there... and, i just did what i'd suggested and voila... found something on the Jacob Burns Center on your page... and see that you're a Mt. Vernonian... since i'm on your page, just wanted to say hi as opposed to being one of those shy, quiet people (some of whom are just creepy lurkers, but most of whom are just curious folks hopping around mult) take care and hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend... |
